Modern Familyâs Julie Bowen dishes on her co-star Sofia Vergara, her husband, plastic surgery and more!
As the new season of her hit show is about to kick off, Julie shared that she and Sofia spent some time together during their time off. âFor Sofia Vergaraâs birthday, we flew to Mexico. It was just my husband and meâmy kids would have ruined it. Sofia was the most gracious host. With open arms, and wallet, she said, âI want to share with all the people in my life.â Sheâs my hero.â; Julie says that sheâs not a night owl and this didnât go over well with Sofiaâs vibrant family. âSofiaâs family is loud, warm, and fantastic. They couldnât be more different from the tight-lipped WASPs I grew up with. [On her birthday trip] her relatives were like, âWhy you do not stay up all the night? The only thing you lose is sleep!â I was like, âSleep is gold to me.â They were like, âBah! Look at me! I havenât slept in three days!â Iâm not talking about 17-year-oldsâIâm talking about 70-year-olds! I canât even repeat all the bawdy wonderfulness [from that trip].â
Julie says the one star sheâd be in awe of is Angelina Jolie, âIf I see Angelina Jolie, I have to look away. I just feel like maybe sheâs not real. Sheâs like a unicorn. Itâs like, âThereâs Angelina Jolie. Weâre not going to seriously stand here and pretend itâs not like seeing a yeti, right?'â
In her always-honest style, she shares what sheâs willing to do for the sake of beauty. âIâve had lasers leveled at my face, and I would like to do Fraxel, the deep one where you go undercover for like a month because you look horrible afterward. But the results are astounding, as if someone blew time off your face. I do find it odd that people choose to do stuff that makes them look like crazy Hollywood faces, but Iâve got zero judgment about itâŠIâve worn some ugly shoes.â
Julie shared that her dad is a thoughtful fellow! âMy dad is a notoriously flashy-but-not-good gift giver. There were lots of pavĂ© diamond teddy bear earrings and whatnot. But for the last 12 years, all three of his daughters get flowers from him every Thursday. I would much rather have that than just about anything else.â
On her supportive husband, software developer Scott Phillips, âRight before I started to try and have kids, I panicked. Scott and I had been married for about a year, and I flipped out: âIâve never been to India!â He was like, âGo to India! But Iâm never going to India.â Thatâs whatâs great about my husband. Heâs like, âI support your dream. Good-bye. Iâll be here when you get back.'â
Julie shared the one website that keeps her laughing (and Iâll admit I got sucked in when I checked it out!: âI hate to admit how juvenile I am, but one of the things that always makes me laugh, besides [my co-star] Ty Burrellâthe funniest person Iâve ever metâis damnyouautocorrect.com. Parents trying desperately to text and itâs coming out all wrong? Holy crap, is that funny. Iâll have tears streaming down my face.â
