At 28 weeks pregnant, I’ve just reached that point where none of my pre-pregnancy clothes stand a chance of fitting. Even my underwear is too tight! I know that it’s time to fully embrace maternity clothes, but since I’ll only be wearing them for a few months, I don’t want to over-spend. Here are the five essential items I’m investing in to get me past the finish line in style.
Maternity Clothes: 5 Third Trimester Essentials
Jeggings
Dark-washed skinny jeans look polished and go with everything, but what hugely pregnant woman wants to wear stiff denim? Maternity jeggings are nearly as soft and stretchy as leggings but they still pass as respectable pants. Bonus: They don't scream "maternity" so you can keep wearing them post-baby until your waistline reappears.
I love these J Brand Mama jeggings because they ride low enough to be comfortable but don't feel like they're going to play peek-a-boo with my bum. They're pricey, so I bought my first pair retail and my second pair on eBay!

Cowl-Neck Top
When boobs and bellies are at maximum diameter, wearing a crew-neck shirt can make your torso look like one giant blob. I like a top that shows a bit more decolletage (hey, if you got it, flaunt it!) without being too sexy.
This pretty line of PattiBoutik cowl-neck tops are gracefully stretchy and come in soft colors -- because who wants to wear neon while pregnant? Pair with jeggings and boots or ballet flats for a look that goes anywhere.

Long Tee or Tank
Your old t-shirts might fit over your head, but they're probably not long enough to cover your belly button. I stocked up on cute, inexpensive maternity tees and tanks from Old Navy and Target, choosing tops with ruching on the side (like this cute number ), which creates a flattering curve. They make great layering pieces -- just mix and match with long cardigans and a cute scarf for a put-together, all-weather outfit.

Maxi Dress
By the third trimester, there's no hope of disguising your bump, so you might as well work that body. A maxi dress with an empire waist highlights your beautiful curves while covering your spider veins and swollen ankles. This gorgeous Rosie Pope maxi can be dressed up for a baby shower or dressed down for every day with a jean jacket and flats.

Slip-on Shoes
It's official: I can't reach my feet. Tying laces requires a flexibility I just can't muster right now, so a flat mule is my new best friend. Check out the Fit Flop brand , which offers styles ranging from winter moccasins to summer flip-flops. They're uber comfortable and run a bit wide, which is perfect for pregnant feet. Plus, you can keep on wearing them when you're out pushing baby's stroller.
