Billie Lourd Honors Mother, Carrie Fisher, With Grieving Instagram Tribute

On December 27th, 2016, Hollywood icon Carrie Fisher died, and her daughter, Billie Lourd, is still reeling from the loss. It wasn’t just her mother who died, but also her grandmother, Debbie Reynolds, who died one day later.

Just after Christmas, Lourd posted a tribute to her late mother and captioned a bit about the stages of grief. Living in the shadow of these two juggernaut women hasn’t always been easy for Lourd, reports Us Magazine. But this year, she just misses them.

A Tribute to Carrie Fisher from Daughter, Billie Lourd

Via her Instagram, Lourd posted a photo of her mom, Fisher, with both her daughter and a koala. Lourd thought the photo was fitting since she was posting the photo from Australia.

“People always ask me what stage of grief I’m in,” Lourd writes in the caption. “And my answer is never simple. I’m in a different stage of grief in each moment of every day.”

She goes on to describe her grief as a “multi-course meal with many complicated ingredients,” including anger, depression, and a bit of denial. “And that’s how grief should be,” she says, “…all things all at once.” Grief is “whatever it is for you,” she explains.

Anticipating social media shenanigans, Lourd also pointed out that her post would seem early to those of us in the States. Given the difference in time zones, it was the 27th in Australia when it was the 26th here.

In addition to the post, Lourd also posted a few snaps to her Instagram Stories in honor of her mom. One showed Lourd on a water slide, captioned with, “My momby loved a good water park. Best way to spend her day, today.” Another, shared a Macy Gray song, as it was the first concert she ever attended with Fisher.

At one point, a headline was circulating that Lourd was happy to be free of her mother and grandmother’s legacy; taken out of context. While she did always want to be known for more than their legacy, she explained in a New Day podcast, she now only wishes to “connect” herself to them, “because I miss them.”

We certainly miss them, as well.
