Healthy Kid-Approved Oat Waffle Recipe

Kids love to eat waffles any time of the day. However, we all know it isn’t a healthy option to start the day. Kids need energy to stay active, and regular waffles won’t make the cut. Moreover, kids might get hungry within 1-2 hours with everyday waffles. This is when oat waffles come in handy!

However, there are a few things to keep in mind. If your child is lactose intolerant, you can make these oat waffles with plant-based milk alternatives. Also, you can substitute whole wheat flour with plain flour, depending on your kid’s taste preference. Also, the waffle might be a bit dense due to rolled oats. For a lighter texture, blitz the oats into oat flour and use that instead.

  • 1 cup wholewheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 bananas (approx.)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup blueberries (frozen or fresh)

Preparation

  1. Mix the dry ingredients (flour, oats, cinnamon, and baking powder) in a large bowl.
  2. Then, blend bananas, milk, and eggs in a blender to make a smoothie.
  3. Add this wet mix to the dry ingredients and combine it with a wooden spoon.
  4. Once well combined, add the blueberries to the oat waffle batter.
  5. Generously spray the waffle maker with oil. 
  6. Pour the batter into your waffle maker and cook (on medium heat) until done. 

For a fancy breakfast, serve the oat waffle to your kiddos with maple or chocolate syrup. You can also serve it plain as a snack or in their school lunchbox with some fruits on the side.
