How To Make DIY Cardboard Tube Binoculars for Kids

If your kid has been asking for binoculars for quite some time, make these DIY cardboard tube binoculars instead of buying them for your little ones. They can easily be made with materials you already have at home and will save you some money. Moreover, you can make as many binoculars as you want with the same procedure for your child to play with. This allows for personalization, so you can create DIY cardboard tube binoculars in your kiddo’s favorite colors.

Materials

  • 2 cardboard toilet paper rolls
  • 1 extra cardboard sheet
  • Paint
  • Washi tape
  • Low-temperature glue gun
  • Hole punch
  • Cord or thin rope
  • Embroidery thread

Procedure

  1. First, measure the distance between your child’s pupils to make the DIY cardboard tube binoculars.
  2. Then, place two toilet paper rolls next to each other and measure the distance from the center of one roll to the center of the other.
  3. Next, shape a piece of extra cardboard into a round, ensuring its diameter is enough so the toilet paper rolls are separated enough to sit in the center of your child’s eyes. Then, close it with tape or a few dabs of hot glue.
  4. Decorate all pieces as desired with craft paint or Washi tape.
  5. Glue all three cardboard pieces together with dabs of hot glue.
  6. Punch holes in the outer side of each toilet paper roll and thread a length of cord or thin rope through the holes, creating a lanyard. You can either knot the ends to hold them in place or loop the ends back on themselves about half-inch, holding the loop in place with a dab of hot glue.
  7. You can also wrap embroidery floss around the end of the loop to cover up the untidy bits, holding it in place with hot glue.

Voila, there you have it, your DIY cardboard tube binoculars are now ready. They are great for birdwatching or searching for pretend pirate ships.

So, get the materials and make these DIY cardboard tube binoculars for your kids as soon as possible. They will love playing with them for hours both indoors and outdoors. Also, don’t forget to share your kid’s feedback in the comment section below.
