The Gaudreau family was hit with a devastating loss last week when brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau passed away in an accident. What was meant to be a weekend full of celebrations for the tight-knit hockey family turned into a tragedy. Since then, a Matthew Gaudreau GoFundMe has been set up to support the late player’s pregnant wife, Madeline.
CNN reported that the two brothers were out for a bike ride in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, the night before their youngest sister’s wedding. On August 29, Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were struck by a car while biking down a county road. The driver reportedly told the New Jersey State Police that he had consumed alcohol that night. Later, authorities confirmed the death of NHL star Johnny, a husband and father of two children, and his brother and soon-to-be dad, Matthew.
Over 7,500 people have donated to Matthew Gaudreau’s pregnant wife
The GoFundMe page for Matthew Gaudreau’s pregnant wife has raised over $500K at the time of writing. It has received donations from over 7,500 people as they continue to send support. The page states that the fundraiser has been created to “support Matthew’s wife, Madeline and their growing baby Tripp.” It aims to take some of the financial weight off the grieving family. The page further adds that all donations will go “directly to Madeline to help pay for funeral expenses and baby Tripp.”
Earlier, Matthew and Madeline announced that they were expecting. The couple shared, “Baby Gaudreau Arriving in December.” Following the tragic accident last week, Madeline shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late husband. While penning the loss, she wrote, “I don’t know my life without you.” Madeline added, “I have never experienced a pain like this.” After expressing her love for Matthew, she wrote that she would continue to “keep going” for him and their son.
