Alex Morgan took to her Instagram to share the news on September 5. She began the video by saying, “I’m gonna get to the point quickly — I’m retiring.” The soccer star said she has “so much clarity about this decision” and is “so happy” to be able to finally share the news. Morgan continued, “It has been a long time coming, and this decision wasn’t easy.” She further shared that at the beginning of 2024, she felt in her “heart and soul that this was the last season” she would play soccer.
Morgan continued to share that soccer has been a part of her life for 30 years. She spoke about her love for the sport and all that she’s given to it. The American soccer player then said that it is also about giving her all as a mom to her daughter, Charlie.
Morgan shared that the 4-year-old approached her one day and said she wanted to be a soccer player when she grew up. “It just made me like immensely proud,” she said. The athlete then explained it is not because she wants Charlie to play the game in the future but because a “pathway exists” now for the future generation, and Morgan had a hand in “making that happen” and “pushing the game forward.”
She also revealed that she is expecting baby number two. “Charlie is gonna be a big sister,” the soccer star announced her pregnancy. Although it was “unexpected,” Alex Morgan said she and her family are “overjoyed ” about the pregnancy. After saying “family means everything” to her, the professional athlete honored her husband, Servando Carrasco.
