Recently, Mindy Kaling opened up about why she started to save her stunning red carpet gowns for her beloved daughters – Katherine Swati and Anne. In an interview with PEOPLE, the actor revealed that before becoming a mom, she rarely kept the dresses she wore to various red carpet events.
However, since she became a mom of two, her closet has become fuller with all the showstopping ensembles. At the same time, she hopes to pass them down to her daughters one day.
Mindy Kaling ‘rarely’ kept her red carpet looks till she welcomed her 2 daughters
While talking to PEOPLE in September at the annual convention of Sephora, Mindy Kaling disclosed that she did not keep her red carpet outfits or rarely kept them before becoming a mother of two daughters. She explained, “I used to be like, ‘Well, I could never wear it again,'” she added, “‘So I don’t need to keep it.'” She continued, “Sometimes I would ask to keep them or buy them, but rarely.”
Nevertheless, when she gave birth to her first daughter Katherine Swati in 2017 and then welcomed her second baby girl Anne this year in February, she changed her mind and began to keep the captivating red carpet ensembles.
Kaling further explained, “Now that I have two daughters, I was literally like, they’re going to be so annoyed that there’s so many gowns that I didn’t keep.” She wittily added, “So now I’m making a more considerate effort.”
The actress also talked about the gown she made sure to add to her closet. It was none other than the 2024 Emmys black sculpted off-the-shoulder plunging neckline gown by designer Gaurav Gupta. She said, “After the Emmys, I asked Gaurav Gupta, ‘Oh, do you think I could buy the gown?'”
Mindy Kaling then disclosed that the designer unexpectedly and quite generously gifted the gown to her. While discussing where the dress was, she humorously revealed, “It’s in a pristine bag, vacuum-sealed in my closet for my two daughters to fight over later.”
Besides her two daughters, the Tony Award-winning producer also has a son named Spencer Avu, whom she welcomed in 2020.
