What Do I Need to Know about This Recall?
The bassinets are made with a dark brown wooden headboard and footboard, and there is a cotton bassinet that comes in a variety of colors and patterns. You will see Eddie Bauer printed on a metal plate on the bassinet’s footboard. A dial is featured at the base of the footboard which locks and unlocks the rocking motion of the bassinet.
The bassinet model number is located under the mattress, on the wash an care label, or on the top surface of the matress support board. The following model numbers have been recalled:
10632
10639
10832
10835
10839
BT021
From December 2007 through January 2011, these bassinets have been sold in retail stores nationwide like Target, Toys R Us, and Sears, and they have been sold online at ebay and additional websites. They typically cost about $150.
What are the Risks?
This bassinet is hazardous because the locking mechanism at the bottom may fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed. This may allow the bassinet to tip and cause infants to roll to the side of the bassinet, posing a grave suffocation hazard to infants.
At this time, Dorel has received 17 reports of incidents involving infants primarily younger than three months old. In two of the incidents, infants experienced difficulty breathing after being rolled over to the side of the bassinets.
