Katherine Heigl Relieved To Finally Hear “Mama”

Katherine Heigl opens up about bonding with her daughter.

In October's issue of InStyle magazine, Katherine talked about the emotional struggle she faced when she went back to work after adopting Naleigh. Initially Naleigh bonded with her husband, Josh Kelly, and it took some getting used to: "The first thing she said was, 'Dada,' and then she'd call everybody else she loved 'Dada', she actually attached to Josh much faster. I had a lot of complicated emotions about it because I chose to go back to work. I love what I do and – this isn't just making excuses – if I weren't fulfilling this thing in me to perform, to live out my passion, I don't know that I would be the mom I need to be."

She's excited because Naleigh is finally starting to expand her vocabulary:  "Naleigh learned with me that the word 'Mama' was synonymous with kisses, so when she first started saying, 'Mama,' she would also make a little kiss sound … She started saying it maybe a month or two ago. I would come into the room and she'd go, 'Mama!' And it was like, Thank God."

Katherine is currently starting to do press for her upcoming movie, "Life as We Know It", with Josh Duhamel.  It's set for release on October 8th.  She's also finishing up the filming of "One for the Money", based on Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.
