Hayden Panettiere has checked into a treatment facility for battling postpartum depression, according to a report from US Weekly.
“Hayden Panettiere is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression,” her rep revealed to the magazine, on Tuesday, October 13. “She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.”
The new mom gave birth to daughter Kaya, her first child with fiance Wladimir Klitschko, in December 2014. Earlier this month, she got candid about her experience with postpartum depression during an interview on “Live! With Kelly & Michael.” (Her character on “Nashville,” Juliette Barnes, is also suffering from extreme postpartum depression.)
“I can very much relate,” she said at the time. “It’s something a lot of women experience.”
Panettiere went on to describe the range of emotions and negative feelings that can come with having a baby. “It’s something that needs to be talked about,” she shared. “Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”
“There’s a lot of people out there that think that it’s not real, that it’s not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their minds, that ‘Oh, it’s hormones,’” she continued. “They brush it off. It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable. It’s really painful and it’s really scary and women need a lot of support.”
On Saturday, October 10, she tweeted:
