6 Shows I’m Binging While My Husband Watches Football

The honeymoon is over, people. No more cuddling together on the couch watching “Bachelor in Paradise” while ranking on the contestants. Football season has begun, and I’ve lost my husband to the godforsaken NFL Sunday Ticket package.

On the bright side, there are so many great shows to catch up on, and now I can binge them solo without any guilt. Here’s what I’m streaming these days:

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon) – If you loved the stylish mid-century modern world of “Mad Men” but prefer laughter to existential despair, check out this genius Emmy-wining series from the creators of “Gillmore Girls.” It’s about a newly single 50s housewife who finds her voice–and her future–in the downtown New York comedy club scene. With Season 2 arriving soon, now is the perfect time to get caught up.

The Bold Type (Freeform) – I love watching these millennial BFF’s navigating their dating lives, wardrobes and careers at a fashion magazine. They remind me of who I was before marriage and kids, and I alternate between giggling at their naivete and envying their freedom. Plus, the whole “Devil Wears Prada” meets “Friends” vibe always puts me in a good mood.

Insatiable (Netflix) – This dark comedy centers on a formerly unpopular teen girl (dubbed “Fatty Patty”) whose sudden weight loss changes her social status in confusing ways. Should she date the hot guy and become a pageant queen or seek revenge on all who wronged her? Maybe both! I especially enjoy Alyssa Milano as the Southern Belle with secrets who helps guide Patty’s rise.

Forever (Amazon) – Without giving away its wackadoo twist, let’s just say that Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph (both from SNL) play a married couple who are perfect for each other and at the same time totally sick of each other, because that’s marriage. With just eight, half-hour episodes, it’s a miniseries that gives you something to think about.

Sweetbitter (Starz) – Based on the bestselling novel, “Sweetbitter” takes place inside a high-end New York restaurant where new-in-town Tess is training to be a back waiter. “If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen” was never so true than in this delicious hotbed of sex, drugs, food and wine.

Rom-Coms of Netflix – Not strictly a show, but still a phenomenon–Netflix has been rolling out charming romantic comedies that perfectly fill the “10 Things I Hate About You”-shaped hole in my heart. Check out “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” about a shy high school girl whose secret crushes are suddenly revealed, “Sierra Burgess is a Big Loser,” a teen take on Cyrano de Bergerac in the texting age, and “Set it Up,” featuring Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu as demanding bosses whose underlings try to trick them into falling in love. You won’t be sorry!
