Mystic Pizza (1988) – R

Annabeth Gish, Julia Roberts, and Lili Taylor play the role of three teenage girls with complicated love lives. They tackle their issues while working at a pizza parlor in the Connecticut town of Mystic. While this movie might not be family-friendly, you can watch this fall-coded classic with your partner with a pizza on the side.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019) – PG

Based on the true story of TV presenter Fred Rogers, this biographical drama is a family-friendly movie that should be on your watch list. The story follows Lloyd Vogel, a cynical journalist, getting acquainted with a kind-hearted Fred Rogers while writing an article about him. However, with time, the two strike an unlikely friendship.

October Sky (1999) – PG

Another oldie but goodie, the autobiography of NASA engineer Homer H. Hickam Jr. provided the basis for this movie about a teen navigating the dawn of the space race. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal (playing Homer Hickam) as a high school student in Coalwood, West Virginia, when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first man-made satellite. Inspired by this, Hickam wants to build a rocket but his coal miner dad is against his grand plans. Despite all the odds, Homer Hickam pursues his passion with the help of his friends and a teacher.

Murder on the Orient Express (2017) – PG-13

If your idea of spending a fall evening involves watching a movie with a stellar star cast, like Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, etc., this mystery movie is just for you. Based on the novel of the same name by Agatha Christie, the film tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train after it gets derailed by an avalanche. While everyone’s a suspect, famed detective Hercule Poirot must race against time to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again.

Autumn in New York (2000) – PG-13

This romantic drama might leave you in tears by the end of it. So, make sure to keep your tissue box handy. Starring Richard Gere and Winona Ryder, the movie is about a 48-year-old playboy who falls for a sweet but terminally ill young woman named Charlotte.

Persuasion (2022) – PG

This historical romance film based on Jane Austen’s 1817 novel of the same name, will evoke a fall vibe with its regal outfits and beautiful scenery on the British coast. Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot (played by Dakota Johnson) is an unconformity woman with modern sensibilities. However, eight years later, Elliot’s ex Frederick Wentworth — the one she sent away thanks to her family — comes back into her life. Watch this family-friendly movie this fall to find out if she seize her second chance at true love.
