Brooke Burke-Charvet, Dancing with the Stars hostess and mom of four, tells her fans sheâs headed for surgery to treat thyroid cancer.
After discovering a lump in her neck during a routine visit, Brookeâs doctors decided to investigate. But the results didnât give her any definitive answers. âI got my results back days later and they were atypical, which means that the doctors couldnât confirm whether the nodule was cancerous or benign. So I had to go and do a whole bunch of additional tests and get second opinions. Long story long, I got my results back and they were not good.â
Brooke wants her fans and DWTS viewers to know before they see with her a scar on her neck and wonder if everythingâs okay. âItâs taken me a couple of months to really wrap my head around this. Now Iâm good. Iâm ready to deal with it, and Iâm going to be fine. I feel really, really strong. Doctors say this is a âgoodâ kind of cancer to have. My doctor did tell me this is a happily ever after ending kind of thing. I donât get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share it, because itâs going to be pretty much dead center. I donât want anybody to read about it and get the wrong idea, or think that Iâm sick, because Iâm not.â
Her Dancing co-host Tom Bergeron expressed his love and support. âIâve known about this for a few months, and I told her at the time she first told me that Iâve had experience with this in my family. You never want to hear the word âcancer,â but thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable cancers. It has an incredibly high success rate. She knows my love and support are with [her],â
