Weather Hunters on PBS Kids

PBS Kids Announces Weather Hunters, New Animated STEM Series Featuring Weatherman Al Roker

PBS Kids has announced a new series coming to the network. It’s titled Weather Hunters, and the STEM-focused show promises to educate and entertain kids ages 5 to 8 years old.

PBS Kids Announces New STEM Series

Weather Hunters will focus on 8-year-old Lily Hunter, a “weather detective” who investigates all things meteorological. Her dad, Al, will be voiced by Today weatherman and host Al Roker, who also leads Al Roker Entertainment, the production company behind the series. Through adventure and comedy, the series aims to inspire today’s youth to learn more about Earth science and meteorology, crucial building blocks in climate education. This series is sure to appeal to moms and kids who want to take a proactive approach to protecting Mother Earth.

Each 22-minute episode of Weather Hunters will incorporate STEM-based themes and activities, covering topics like tracking weather patterns, weather changes and variability around the country and the world, and the way humans and the environment affect one another. At the center of the story will be Lily, her weather investigations, and the heartfelt moments she shares with her family. Digital content will also be available to complement and reinforce what kids are learning through the series.

Al Roker Says New Kids Series Is a ‘Labor of Love’

“We’re so excited to be working with Al Roker and his team to bring important weather and Earth science lessons to kids through Weather Hunters,” Sara DeWitt, senior vice president and general manager of PBS Kids said in a press release. “We know that parents and kids are looking for content about weather and climate; this show is fresh, funny and forward-thinking, and will help kids understand how weather affects their lives every day.”

Weather Hunters has been a labor of love and a passion project for more than a decade and I cannot think of a better partner than PBS KIDS to make this dream come true,” Al Roker added. “When it comes to Weather Hunters, I predict increasing animation with downpours of family friendly storytelling and a rising understanding of weather and climate on your local PBS station, pbskids.org, and the PBS KIDS Video and Games apps.”
