Adding customized elements to my kids’ backpacks always proved to be an ice-breaker when they were getting to know their new classmates. This one was one of my sons’ favorites; they kept them on their backpacks all year long last year. Not only does it one spell out their name, but incorporates a hot topic my kids love: games! The process of making this Scrabble tile zipper pull is easy enough that my kids made their own in an afternoon. Here’s how:
Supplies:
- Scrabble tiles
- Popsicle stick
- Binder clips
- Glue on bail
- Lanyard clip
- E6000 glue (or other heavy duty glue)
Instructions:
Step 1: Begin by measuring and trimming the popsicle stick so all the tiles will fit.
Step 2: Add an ample bead of glue to the stick.
Step 3: Arrange the tiles so they are straight and spread across the stick evenly, leaving enough room at the top for the bail.
Step 4: Carefully clamp the binder clips to the tiles and let set for 2 hours.
Step 5: Apply the bail to the back of the using the glue.
Step 6: Clamp the binder clip and let set for another 2 hours.
Step 7: Attach the lanyard clip to the bail, and clip it on your backpack.
