With the half-term holidays just around the corner, I’m beginning to look out for some fun events in the UK to keep my children entertained (and save my sanity) all week long. While I’m hoping that we get some sunshine and not too much rain so that we can enjoy some long autumn walks and trips to the play park, it’s worth having some ideas for days out just in case the weather isn’t so nice. A week of being stuck indoors hearing “Mum, I’m bored” is probably more than any of us can cope with, so I’ve rounded up six of the most fun sounding activities happening around the UK this October half term.
Icky Yucky Stuff, Eureka
Dr Frankenstein will be exploring the ickier, stickier, distinctly yuckier side of the human body along with his notorious monster and a few unusual medical professionals all week. You can join him for a thirty minute show and meet his latest creation, discover some disgusting facts, and delve deeper into the workings of the human body. Perfect if your little monster likes all things disgusting! If they are feeling really brave, they can head into the Eureka! Gross Lab to make their own slime.
Moscow State Circus
Escape real life for two wonderful hours as you watch Russia’s most popular troupe of daredevils perform their awesome show 7 Zhelaniy. Based on the Russian folklore story of Cvetik-Semicvetik (“the flower with seven colours”), the Moscow State Circus’s 7 Zhelaniy promises to be a spectacle the likes of which you’ve never seen before. Join Wizard Wako and his crazy sidekick on a journey through a wondrous and mysterious enchanted garden this half term, as they grant wishes to the beautiful Zhenya. It’s certain to entertain your children and maybe inspire them
Children’s Cooking Club, Bristol
Why not encourage your little one to learn some new cookery skills this half term with this Saturday club? Not only will they develop their practical skills and their understanding of food, they will also leave with baked goodies to share with you!
Vampire Pleasure Beach
If you’re feeling brave, why not visit the vampires at Blackpool Pleasure Beach? Each evening after 4:00 p.m., the vampires take over to guide you through the Pleasure Beach. There will be frighteningly good live music and a horror maze. Kids in Halloween costumes get a free trick-or-treat prize, too!
Cadbury World Halloween Spooktacular
We like to visit Cadbury World at half term for some fun hocus pocus. There are daily fancy dress competitions and a family show—The Scream Factor—to watch. The shop is full of scary treats, and if you visit the cafe there are daring dishes to be tested.
Audley End House and Gardens
My children love fairy tales. If yours are the same, why not take them along to Audley End House in Essex for some frightening fairy tales and spooky stories? They can show off their spooktacular costumes and frighten the fearless staff—be sure they remember to take their favourite teddy to hide behind!
