Weight Loss Tip: Eat These Foods Filled with Omega-3s

Fat may have a bad reputation, but certain kinds are good for you — and essential.

You may have heard about omega-3 fatty acids, which are critical to cell function and heart health. Your body cannot make them, so the only way to get these fatty acids is through food. (Omega-3 deficiency is common in America.)

If you’re pregnant, these essential fatty acids are key for the development of your baby’s nervous system and immune system. And if you’re not expecting, omega-3s can actually help you lose weight!

It’s easy to get more of this good fat in your diet, simply by stocking your pantry a bit differently. You can find omega-3 fatty acids in walnuts and low-mercury, sustainably-sourced fish (avoid farmed), but my favorite way to get it is from grass-fed butter and ghee, a clarified butter popularly used in Indian cooking. You can drizzle ghee on top of most dishes, like popcorn, pasta, and veggies!

Eggs are a fantastic food to eat not only for their omega-s, but also for their protein and iron. Just make sure to grab organic, free-range eggs to get the biggest benefit because other options may not be as rich in the fatty acid. And when you’re cooking eggs, don’t throw out the yolks—that’s where most of the vitamins are.
