Vontouring & Other Weird Vagina Trends That Are Worth Trying

1. V-Steaming
This one became a thing last year, thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow, who suggested that the readers of her lifestyle blog, GOOP, try vagina steaming, and it’s still going strong. One of the high-end spas that offer this treatment, Tikkun Spa in Los Angeles, claims that the herb-infused steam-clean can balance out your hormones and keep things fresh up there, as well as prevent uterine diseases and ease digestive issues. After trying the treatment herself, Laura Hooper Beck wrote in Fast Company that “I like it…I Zen out… I want to feel as clean on the outside as I feel on the inside. Which is to say, very clean. Squeaky clean.” If you’re prone to vaginal infections, however, you may want to check with your doctor first, says Sheryl A. Ross, MD, a Los Angeles-based ob-gyn and women’s health expert. “My concern is that steam cleaning would have a similar consequence of douching, and disrupt the ph balance, which could give you an infection.”

2. Vontouring
Just recently approved by the FDA to be practiced in the United States, vagina contouring is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure intended to plump the labia and tighten the vagina. Using an ultrasonic pen-shaped contraption, plastic surgeons can boost collagen production down there, changing the look and firmness of your lady parts. “Specialists who perform the procedure claim the results are immediate and one small study found that it improved sexual satisfaction in about 40 percent of the participants,” says Dr. Ross. Plus, recovery time is minutes! While it’s cheaper than full-blown plastic surgery, it still costs several hundred dollars per session, and you’ll need around four to six sessions. Still, if you’ve got a couple grand, it’s something Moms with post-baby bits might want to consider.

3. Vajaycials
Like the skin on your face, the skin in your private parts could use some TLC as well. These pampering treatments, found at many day spas and waxing salons, include cleansing, exfoliation, and ingrown hair removal. It’s especially key a couple of weeks after a bikini wax, when ingrowns start to pop up. Just think of how pretty it’ll look! They also tend to run around $50, which is far less than your run-of-the-mill facial.

4. Vatooing
Vatooing is probably pretty easy to figure out from the name alone: It’s a temporary tattoo for your vagina. Instead of using feathers and Swarovski crystals to dress up your down-there though, you get a sexy, unobtrusive design. Offered at waxing salons, the process is easy: A technician gets you completely hair-free and bare, then she airbrushes on a design of your choosing. It’s pain-free (well, except for the waxing part) and it lasts about a week.

5. Kegel trackers
As you know, it’s especially important to have strong pelvic floor muscles and to strengthen them after you’ve given birth. Not only do Kegels — you know, those repetitive squeeze and relax exercises that your ob-gyn has told you about — tighten things up and improve your sex life but they help with bladder control as well. Oh, and you’ll have more orgasms (yes, it’s a fact). Well, now there are several devices on the market that sync up to your iPhone, tracking your Kegels and the strength of your pelvic muscles. Like a FitBit, it’s both motivation and monitoring!
