Effective Skin Care Tips for New Moms

Skin care is essential at every age, even if you are a new mom. However, new moms have no time to follow a long skincare regime between constantly caring for their newborn, sleep-deprived days, and lack of adequate nutrition. As a result, they have dull, dry skin that desperately needs some TLC.

We understand long skincare routines are challenging when your newborn needs constant attention. That is why your skin care practices should be easy and effective. To help all the new moms out there, we have some effective skin care tips that can be a lifesaver for your postpartum skin.

1. Keep things simple and organized

You may be tempted to try new skincare products like face masks and new kits available to see immediate results on your skin. If you have time, go ahead and indulge yourself. However, as new moms, your goal should be to cover the skin care basics first. Keep your everyday skin care short and simple (add to it if you have extra time).

So, instead of buying products that require too much of your time, buy the ones that you can apply quickly. It would be best to pick products that show results in a few weeks. Save those luxurious skincare products for later once you have more time for yourself.

Another vital thing to keep in mind is to keep it organized. Until your little one grows up, stick to products you will use daily and keep them in an accessible place (for you, not your child; always keep skincare products out of your child’s reach). With an organized vanity, you can be more efficient with your skin care practices.

2. Wash your face every day

Instead of buying morning and nighttime cleansers, get a gentle cleanser you can use any time of the day. Gentle cleansers will work best for new moms as they won’t strip the skin of its natural oil while also effectively removing dirt and grime from the skin.

Based on your skin type, choose fragrance-free products with witch hazel, glycerin, salicylic acid, etc. You can also opt for natural cleansers if your skin feels sensitive. However, switch your face towel to a fresh one every other day. Old towels harbor dirt, sweat, and oil, which can lead to breakouts.

3. Streamline your skincare routine

Cleansing and moisturizing are basic steps of any skincare routine. If you have a few extra seconds at hand, cleanse your face with micellar water before going in with your water-based cleanser for an uber-clean face. Then, use a moisturizer based on your skin type, and you are done for the day. Opt for a night cream post-cleansing for your nighttime routine to rejuvenate your skin.

4. Apply sunscreen regularly

Even if you plan to stay indoors or go out for just a few minutes, always apply sunscreen. A good sunscreen will help prevent sun damage and prevent premature aging. Reapply it every two hours for ultimate protection while swimming or spending the day in the park with your little one. While you should embrace aging, sunscreen will help slow down the process so you can enjoy aging gracefully.

5. Your hands (and feet) deserve some love too

Similar to your face, your hands also need some TLC. Don’t neglect them! A hand cream will keep the skin supple and soft while helping prevent wrinkles. So, slather your hands with hand cream before bed and see the difference over time. You can also use foot cream to massage and moisturize your tired feet (provided you have the extra time).

Besides these, new moms can also add serums and other anti-aging products to their skincare regime. If you need more clarification, consult a dermatologist. You should avoid certain ingredients if you are breastfeeding, so do your research and consult a professional before picking your skincare products.
