Mom Style How-To: The Plaid Trend

The ’90s have stirred up more than a few major trends this year, from Birkenstocks to the boyfriend blazer. This season, add Seattle’s grunge inspired plaid trend to the list of ’90s looks we must rock this winter. Similar to other ’90s trends, striking a feminine balance to these otherwise masculine items is key. Slim jeans, pants or leggings, knee high boots, knit skirts and tights, drawstring satchels, and a pop of crimson lipstick are easy complements to your favorite new plaid piece. I’ve been inspired by the always stylish Frida Pinto and Queen B and their plaid trend ensembles.

Frida’s look celebrates the classic plaid flannel shirt paired with chic—and comfy!—black leggings, a floppy hat, oversized sunnies, and a leather backpack. Fashion loving moms can easily pull off this plaid look while sprinting around with our tiny humans. Win! B went date-night chic with her slim fit pencil skirt and ankle booties…a look I can’t get enough of.

Here are a few plaid trend looks I have sitting in my shopping cart. For me, I’m all about making sure each item in my trend inspired outfits can go the distance—they’ve got to be versatile enough to be worn with five or more different looks and beyond one season, or else they don’t make the cut. All these items pass those tests and are great additions to every mom’s winter wardrobe. Check them out!
