Denise Richards Tries To Explain Addiction To Her Daughters

In an appearance on “The View” today, Denise Richards chats about trying to explain addiction to her young daughters.

Denise shares two daughters, Sam, 6, and Lola, 5, with one of Hollywood’s most famous addicts, ex-husband Charlie Sheen.  With that, comes the duty of attempting to explain their father’s struggle to the girls. She says of Charlie’s tabloid-headlining partying: “This has been something I have dealt with for years. This is not a new situation.”   Although she’s been dealing with the unpredictable behavior for years, it doesn’t make it any easier to explain things to Sam and Lola: “There are times where his life is more colorful than others, more public than others, and as the kids get older it’s a difficult thing. I’m learning as I go too. I have never had to deal with this and this was a subject I had hoped to talk with my children about as they got older. But it’s hard.”

Denise is trying to explain addiction to them and uses books where she can. “One in particular, I’m blanking on the title, it explains addiction to children. There are images and pictures that a child can understand. I don’t know what they fully comprehend from these conversations. They don’t know what some of these things are. So I do the best I can and it’s not easy.”

I feel so bad for them because once they’re old enough to surf the internet, they’ll see all these crazy stories about their dad – most of them true.  Kudos to Denise for staying focused on the positive and being the best mom she can be – trying to shield them, yet prepare them at the same time.
