What do you need to know about this Recall?

The recall notification is being issued out of an abundance of caution based on a random sample test, conducted on behalf of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). One bag of this product with the Aug 01 “Enjoy by” date was confirmed to be positive for Listeria monocytogenes. As of August 5th, 2011, no illnesses have been associated with this product. To further help you identify this product, it comes in a 5 oz.(142g) Plastic Bag bearing the Barcode 20001162 and bearing an “Enjoy by Aug. 1, 2011” product expiration date.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

What should you do if you still possess some of this product?

Fresh & Easy believes that it is important to alert consumers that might still possess this product (specifically with the Barcode 20001162 and the “Enjoy by” date of Aug. 01, 2011) and they are advising customers still in possession of this expired product to immediately dispose of it. The recalled product was sold in Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores located in California, Nevada, and Arizona. Customers may return the empty product bag or present the receipt as proof of purchase of the recalled product to any Fresh & Easy store for a full refund.
