Weekend Movie Release Roundup: In Theaters & On DVD 8/17

With a large lineup of new films out this weekend, there is something sure to please everyone!

New in Theaters 8/17/12

1. The Odd Life of Timothy Green (PG)

Starring Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, and CJ Adams

A childless couple bury a box in their backyard, containing all of their wishes for a baby. Soon, a child is born, though Timothy Green is not all that he appears.

2. Cosmopolis (R)

Starring Robert Pattinson, Jay Baruchel, and Juliette Binoche

Based on the novel by Don DeLillo. Set in the year 2000, it centers around one day in the life of a young billionaire, who is attempting to complete two tasks – get his hair cut and to pursue a cataclysmic bet against the yen. Stalled in traffic, he receives a string of visitors—experts on security, technology, currency, finance and even a few sexual partners.

3. Sparkle (PG-13)

Starring Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks and Carmen Ejogo

Whitney Houston’s final project before she passed away. Set in the 1960s, three sisters form girl group and soon become Motown sensations, but fame becomes a challenge as the close-knit family begins to fall apart.

4. ParaNorman (PG)

Starring Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann, Kodi Smit-McPhee

A misunderstood boy who can speak with the dead, takes on ghosts, zombies and grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse.

5. The Expendables 2

Starring Sylvester Stallone, Liam Hemsworth, Chuck Norris, and Bruce Willis

Mr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.

1. The Hunger Games – releases tomorrow, 8/18

Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson

In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem as the participants are forced to eliminate their competitors. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female tribute, Katniss volunteers to take her place.
