Baby's First Foods: Fall Options

Baby’s First Foods: Fall Options

First food options for babies have changed over the years. It used to be that commercial iron-fortified infant cereal was the only option that pediatricians would recommend, but today, pediatricians and their governing body, the American Academy of Pediatrics now suggest that first foods can be any single ingredient food, not just rice cereal.

If your baby is just beginning to eat solid foods (typically between the ages of 4-6 months, with 6 months being the optimal age), Fall is a great season for introducing many beginner foods   Here are a few wonderful first foods for babies that you will find fresh and in season throughout the fall.

All of these foods are easy to digest, mild, and (of course!) delicious. What more could you ask for in tasty first foods for your little one? If you will be home preparing any of these fabulous fall offerings, try roasting them in your oven. Roasting or baking will bring out a most wonderful flavor that will range from slightly nutty (squash) to naturally sweet in the purest sense.
