The Rocky Mountain scenery around me is painted beautiful tones of green, yellow, orange, and red right now, and I’m grateful to witness the beauty of it on a daily basis. In the blink of an eye, the snow will soon fly and the leaves will be but a distant memory until the spring, so the kids and I wanted to spend some time hiking this fall. To make it more fun for the kiddos, I created a DIY fall bingo card, and it was a smashing success.
Here’s how you can create a DIY fall bingo card too.
Supplies:
- Red, orange, yellow, brown, green, blue, white, and black card stock (We used Astrobrights Paper, which you can find at Office Depot and Amazon, among others.)
- Scissors or Silhouette electronic cutting tool
- Clipboard (We found ours for $3 at the $1/$3 section at Target.)
- Markers
- Glue stick
Instructions:
Step 1: Create a list of the items you anticipate finding on a fall hike in your area. Our items included clouds, the sun, birds, branches, pine cones, pine needles, berries, red, orange, yellow, and brown leaves, trees, and grass.
Step 2: Use a Silhouette to cut fall shapes that fit in a 2.5 x 2.5 inch box. If you don’t have a Silhouette, you can hand-draw and cut the items, or even cut the images from a magazine.
Step 3: Use washi tape, a black marker, or the Silhouette to cut black lines. Lay them out on a white sheet of paper and use glue to stick them to the paper.
Step 4: Once the lines are in place, use glue to add your fall items in the various boxes, and make sure each card is different.
Step 5: Place the card on the clipboard, and stick a pen behind the clip on top of the clipboard so kids can cross off items as they hike.
Step 6: Bring a camera, because it’s so precious when children explore the world around them, especially when it’s lit up with vibrant color. As you can see from the photos, even my two-year-old wannabe-Minion got in on the fall bingo hiking action too.
