Safety on the Road with SYNC

Ford now offers a way for us to do both. Their in-car app, available SYNC®, seamlessly integrates driving and communicating. The forward-thinking technology allows moms, kids, friends, even emergency contacts to stay connected and prepared while en route, whether it’s a few miles to school or a few hundred miles to grandma’s.

The designers at Ford have thought about every detail – from receiving and responding to messages to calling 911 and they have made it virtually hands-free. With available SYNC, your voice operates the essentials so your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes focused on the road. Here are a few of our favorite features:

Look, Ma, No Hands…

Need to make a hands-free call? You’re just a word away from being in touch. Press a button, use a simple voice command, and SYNC dials for you. You can even put a call on hold and automatically transfer it back to your handset with no interruption. For incoming calls, just push a button on the steering wheel. SYNC lets you share three-way calling, use caller ID and set ringtones for different people.

Listen Up, All You Texters…

We live in the age of texting, and as mothers we need quick access to messages immediately. Now when you receive a text, there’s no reason to take your hands off the wheel. SYNC reads messages to you so you can listen to texts instead of reading them. SYNC even recognizes emoticons and abbreviations like 🙂 and LOL. You can reply to a text via a series of preset messages—all by simply using your voice. So no matter how long your drive is, you’re never out of touch… and FWIW we think that’s GR8!

Peace of Mind on the Road

When you pair your phone with Ford SYNC, be sure to activate 911 Assist. That way, if you are ever in an accident that causes an airbag to deploy, SYNC can call 911 and report your location, even if you can’t. The SYNC microphone opens as well, allowing those inside the car to talk hands-free with the operator. The 911 Assist menu also contains an ‘In Case of Emergency’ speed dial list that you can add two names to,so key contacts are reachable at the push of a button. Those ICE contacts are automatically displayed on the touch screen once SYNC completes the 911 call. While you hopefully won’t need it, Ford SYNC goes directly to emergency responders. And it is available at no additional cost.

Technology has the power to make our hectic daily mom lives more convenient in so many ways—but using it safely is essential. Ford has just taken a huge step forward in making that possible.

DISCLAIMER: Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control. Only use mobile phones and other devices, even with voice commands, when it is safe to do so. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

The vehicle’s electrical system (including the battery), the wireless service provider’s signal and a connected mobile phone must all be available and operating for 911 Assist to function properly. These systems may become damaged in a crash. The paired mobile phone must be connected to SYNC, and the 911 Assist feature enabled, in order for 911 to be dialed. When the feature is ON, 911 Assist uses your paired and connected mobile phone to assist occupants to contact emergency services by dialing 911 if your airbag deploys or, on certain vehicles, if the emergency fuel pump shut-off is activated.
