“Love Is Blind” star Shaina Hurley has disclosed her cancer diagnosis while she was pregnant. She appeared on the second season of Netflix’s popular dating show in 2022. The reality television star recently opened up about her diagnosis and how she dealt with the battle before welcoming her first child.
Shaina Hurley’s stage 2 cervical cancer diagnosis came during first trimester
In an interview with People, Shaina Hurley talked about her cancer diagnosis when she was three months into her pregnancy. The reality TV star had cervical cancer. Shaina and her husband, Christos Lardakis, welcomed a baby boy, Yiorgos David, earlier this year. Despite the uncertainties following the diagnosis, she refused to get any procedures that would put her baby at risk. Shaina shared that she had a miscarriage before Yiorgos. She decided “nothing was going to stop” her as she believed in her “faith” and “strong will.”
Pregnant Shaina was suggested to deliver at 32 weeks, but she refused as she felt “it was too early.” That would have allowed the doctors to see the status of the cancer. However, Shaina “pushed it to 37-and-a-half weeks and delivered a healthy baby boy.”
Shaina shared that she did not have any symptoms before the diagnosis. However, she was told to get a colposcopy after some test results came back “abnormal.” Later, the doctor told her that “it’s not looking good” when she underwent the procedure. Following that, it was confirmed that Shaina had Stage 2 cervical cancer. Understandably, the fear crept in, but she decided to go into “survival mode” and put her trust in god. “I just prayed for the best, at the end of the day,” Shaina said.
Shaina refused to undergo a cold-knife conization because she could have “lost the baby” since she was three months pregnant. However, she underwent the procedure after giving birth to Yiorgos. As it was unsuccessful the first time, Shaina underwent another cold knife conization. She was finally declared cancer-free in June.
