Carissa Moore, the five-time world champion on the WSL (World Surf League) Women’s World Tour, was two months pregnant while competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her father, Chris Moore, confirmed the news as reported by USA Today. In a text message to USA Today Sports, he said while talking about his daughter, “There were a few days they didn’t (surf) that had scary/unruly conditions.” He further added, “It was stressful.”
Carissa Moore went on to win a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. However, she lost at the Paris Olympics during the quarterfinal round.
Carissa Moore’s father reveals she learned of her pregnancy weeks before 2024 Olympics
32-year-old American surfer Carissa Moore found out about her pregnancy approximately five weeks before the Paris Games began. According to Chris Moore, at that time, she was training in a village on Tahiti island, Teahupo’o. He further informed USA TODAY Sports that Carissa was cleared by doctors to compete at the Paris Olympics.
In a recent interview with SURFER’s Dashel Pierson, Carissa Moore talked about her pregnancy and the Paris Games. She said, “…so many things that are happening to your body in the first trimester,” She explained, “just like being sick and tired and emotional like just wanting to cry at random moments.” Moore further added that she knew everything about it when she went to the competition. She said, “I was just like, hey, I gotta just put my head down and get it done.”
The surfer recently took to Instagram to share a photo of herself holding a surfboard and showing off her baby bump. In the caption, Carissa Moore talked about her feelings regarding surfing during pregnancy. She wrote, “Surfing is already feeling a little different pregnant but so stoked to be in the water.” Moore ended the caption by saying that she is embracing the challenge to figure out a new pace and a new approach.
