Ashton Kutcher Blames Parenting Style on ‘Toxic Masculinity’

Ashton Kutcher has recently revealed tidbits about his parenting style on the “Throwbacks” weekly podcast show. The 46-year-old actor, who is a devoted Bears fan, appeared on the show as their first-ever guest. He sat down with cohosts Matt Leinart and Jerry Ferrara to talk about the NFL and how life has changed after having kids, especially his football-watching habits. Moreover, the “That ’70s Show” actor also went on to talk about how he applies different parenting styles to his kids.

For those unaware, Ashton Kutcher shares two kids with his wife, Mila Kunis. His daughter Wyatt is currently 9 years old, while his son Dimitri is 7.

Ashton Kutcher admits treating his kids differently

When Matt Leinart asks Ashton Kutcher about his experience as a girl dad, the latter admits to having a special bond with his daughter, who is his firstborn. He said he “had never been so in love” with anyone before her. The actor had even talked about this with his wife, but he is also guilty of treating his kids differently regarding discipline and rules.

Kutcher feels that the “toxic masculinity” he had experienced has greatly contributed to this mindset. He is never too stern with his son and even pushes him to try new things. On the other hand, he wants to keep his daughter from danger, which he links to being overly protective.

He then says that when his son cries, he asks him to be brave and learn from his mistakes. On the contrary, hearing his daughter cry makes him feel that his “heart is out of my body and I can’t put it back in.” He has also noticed how girls are a lot more sensitive and cares deeply about relationships. That is why, according to Kutcher, one needs to be a lot softer when raising a girl child.

He also mentions how the “challenging thing about daughters vs. sons” is that the relationship dynamic is different and “difficult” with daughters since the “friendship stuff is a whole other level of importance for them.” He has noticed this with his kids and concludes that the “relationship stuff is challenging.”

Meanwhile, his wife is “very strict” with their daughter than with their son. In this way, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis maintain a balanced parenting.
