Jessica Alba is spilling all about her unique approach to punishing her kids. The actress, who shares three children with her husband Cash Warren, recently got candid about her interesting parenting hack. Alba’s novel disciplining method can be arguably more effective as it also gives the child a sense of what they are doing.
Jessica Alba lets her kids decide on their punishment and it is usually ‘way worse’
As per PureWow, Jessica Alba was in attendance at the launch event for Instagram Teen Accounts. The actress was asked how she implements positive social media use for her teenage daughters, Honor and Haven. In response, Alba said that she thinks “it starts before they get online.” She continued, “I think you build in trust with your kid having a dialogue.”
The 43-year-old revealed she has “an interesting way of dealing with punishment.” She continued, “I tell my kids, I can choose your punishment or you choose your punishment.” Alba recalled the incident when her oldest daughter chose her punishment, explaining that when Honor was just 10 years old, she downloaded a game that was meant for adults.
After finding out that she and her friend “stayed up until 2 in the morning,” the actress “sat the girls down” and told her daughter that either Honor could choose her own punishment or the mother could do it on her behalf. Alba shared that “what’s nice about this” disciplining approach is that “they usually give themselves a way worse punishment.” Honor told her mom, “I should lose my privileges to being on my device (she had an ipad) until Christmas.”
The holiday was three months away, and during this time, Alba’s daughter said “she liked herself better.” The then-10-year-old decided to go without her device for a few more months. The actress further shared that her daughter “learned early to self-regulate.”
