Selena Gomez Seeks Parenting Advice From ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay

Selena Gomez recently opened up about her desire to be a mother. The singer-actor is now seeking parenting advice from Mariska Hargitay. The “Law & Order: SVU” star shares three children with Peter Hermann — two sons, August and Andrew, and a daughter, Amaya.

Earlier this year, Gomez revealed to Vanity Fair she can’t carry her own children. The actor explained she has “a lot of medical issues” that would put her “life and the baby’s in jeopardy.” However, Gomez shared that she may still become a parent via adoption or surrogacy.

Selena Gomez asks Mariska Hargitay for advice ‘as someone who desires to be a mother’

During an interview with Interview magazine, Gomez told Hargitay she “wanted to ask a personal question, as someone who desires to be a mother.” The singer recalled how she went to pick up Hargitay’s kids from school one day and “loved that.” She asked Hargitay, who plays the iconic Olivia Benson, how she balances that as it “felt so normal and real.” Gomez also added that one day she hoped to do that.

Hargitay acknowledged how maintaining the balance is “hard” for working moms, and there have been times when she felt “torn or frustrated.” She explained that in their jobs, they can’t say, “Guys, I’m not coming in today.” Hargitay said, “But I’ve integrated them here.” The NBC star shared her kids come to work with her. Despite that, she admitted there are things she misses.

Hargitay revealed her children are “really proud” of her, candidly adding, “I talk to them a lot about, what kind of life do you want, and who do you want to be, and how do you want to spend your time?” She continued, “What do you want to give back and who do you want to affect and what do you want to create? And so I look at it now and think, yes, I missed stuff.”

“There were days where the nanny did a little extra, and that was hard,” Hargitay said. However, she explained she brought August to work with her every day during the first year. Mariska Hargitay then told Selena Gomez, “You can, too. It’s doable.” Following that, the actor said she is “happier and living a fuller life” and her children can also understand that because “when I’m with them, I’m with them.”
