Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Drew Barrymore preps for Mammogram

Drew Barrymore is already receiving applause for completing her annual mammogram on-air for the latest episode of her talk show. “The Drew Barrymore Show” is dropping a Breast Cancer Awareness Month episode on Wednesday, and the host is going that extra mile to convey the message. Barrymore, a mother of two, takes the audience through the hassle-free process, claiming she has “never done a mammogram in heels” before.

As the cameras roll for a mammogram, Drew Barrymore, wearing a hospital gown, introduces the three breast cancer survivors, Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, Jessica Saint Clair, and her technician, Terry. They then prepare Barrymore for a mammogram on stage while fans Dawn and Morgan, who join them, observe the “nurturing experience.” Terry assists the talk show host and tells her, “So all you need to do is relax and I’m gonna place you into the machine.”

Drew Barrymore calls the on-air mammogram experience “different” as the technician uses the machine to take an image. Afterward, she claims she “found it to be also a very nurturing experience.” The actor then explains the experience to Dawn and Morgan. Gesturing with her hands, she tells them it felt “like if you took your two hands and you took the breast out and you just did that really hard for, what is it, Terry, 10 seconds?” Barrymore confirmed with her technician that it only took 10 seconds to complete the process.

“The Drew Barrymore Show” dropped the preview clip on Instagram but refrained from showing the mammogram results. Fans applauded, cheered, and praised the 49-year-old for showing courage and taking the exam in front of a live audience.
