Lisa Marie Presley Writes What Abortion Did to Her in Memoir

Lisa Marie Presley’s posthumously published memoir “From Here to the Great Unknown” revealed she had an abortion while dating Danny Keough. Presley, who died of bowel obstruction in 2023, wrote in her book that she unknowingly got pregnant for the first time during the initial stages of her relationship with Keough. However, she got pregnant again and ended up “having an abortion” that “destroyed” both of them, as reported by PEOPLE.

Lisa Marie Presley on abortion: ‘It was the stupidest thing’

When Lisa Marie Presley got pregnant with Danny Keough’s child a second time, they decided to get an abortion. In her posthumous memoir, Presley wrote that being completely unaware of what to do, she “ended up having an abortion.” She recalled being “devastated” and that the decision “was the stupidest thing” she had made. The late mother of four wrote in the book how they “both cried” after the procedure, which “destroyed” them.

Not long after the abortion, Presley revealed that her relationship with Danny Keough “fell apart” and they eventually “broke up.” Further sharing intricate and personal details, she revealed that the subsequent events involved a lot of planning.

Lisa Marie Presley disclosed that after the abortion, she began tracking when she was ovulating and followed Danny Keough to a cruise ship. Keough, a musician, was performing on the ship with his band. Presley claimed she felt the desperate need “to redeem, to make amends” after getting the abortion. She thought to herself, “I’m going to have this child. There is a child I need to be having.”

In her memoir, Lisa Marie Presley mentioned instances when she apologized to “the lost child,” asking for forgiveness. However, she found hope after getting pregnant with Keough’s child again, and the two tied the knot shortly after. They welcomed their first daughter, Riley Keough, in 1989 and had a son, Benjamin Keough, in 1992.
