Jenna Fischer Recalls Telling Her Kids About Her Breast Cancer Diagnosis

“The Office” actor Jenna Fischer recently recalled telling her kids about her breast cancer diagnosis. Fischer, who is now cancer-free, got candid about her journey in an exclusive interview with TODAY. She previously broke the news of her breast cancer diagnosis on Instagram in early October in light of Breast Cancer Awareness month. In her latest sit-down conversation with Hoda Kotb, the 50-year-old detailed how her life-changing diagnosis affected her and described her experience with chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments.

Jenna Fischer was ‘honest’ about her breast cancer diagnosis to kids

Jenna Fischer told TODAY‘s Hoda Kotb she had an “honest” conversation with her kids about her breast cancer diagnosis. Fischer revealed she and her husband, Lee Kirk, sat their children, Weston Lee and Harper Marie, down for the talk and were “very honest with them.” She explained that Harper and Weston “were going to be living in the house while I went through this” and would “see it.”

According to Fischer, her biggest challenge was telling her kids about her breast cancer diagnosis. The mother of two claimed she wanted them to understand that if she ever “seemed sick during this process,” it was the “side effects of treatments.” She told the broadcaster that after the conversation with her children, they went through the process as a family and further called them “amazing.”

In addition, Jenna Fischer detailed her husband’s support through her fight with breast cancer. She described how a typical morning for both of them involved “getting up in the morning,” “making school lunches,” and “school drop-offs.” However, Fischer got emotional remembering that during her treatment phase, the most she was able to do “was get downstairs and sit at the table with a cup of coffee.” Her husband did “all the rest.”

Jenna Fishcer’s in-depth one-on-one with TODAY aired on October 21. The actor revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in an Instagram post a few weeks ago.
