Tom Brady, who is a loving father of three kids, made a parenting confession at the Fortune Global Forum that is honest in a lot of ways. Brady first described being a parent as one of the “hardest” jobs, which he believes other parents often relate to. Then, he immediately admitted to having “screwed up a lot” as a parent, claiming he is certainly not an “expert in parenting.”
Brady shared some parenting advice about supporting children with “whatever they want to do in life” because that was the same kind of support his parents offered him. The former athlete also revealed more about bringing up his three children in the shadow of his legacy and his distinct “parenting style.”
Tom Brady admits he ‘screwed up a lot’ while parenting his kids
During his appearance at the 2024 Fortune Global Forum, Tom Brady made confessions about parenting his kids and also dropped some advice for other parents. The retired quarterback admitted that he “screwed up a lot as a parent” bringing up his three children, but he tries “to be there” for his three kids. “I try to just be dependable and consistent for them,” Brady added before noting that “we got to support” children’s life choices and decisions.
The 47-year-old then opened up about the “blessing” his parents gave him when he was just a backup quarterback. He continued, “They never said, ‘Man, don’t do that. It’s gonna be too hard. Let’s do something different. Let’s think about another backup plan.'” Instead, his parents advise him to “‘go for it,” urging and motivating him to pursue his own path in life.
Tom Brady said that his parenting style with his kids is quite similar to his parents’. He spoke about talking to his eldest son, 17-year-old Jack, who is six foot five, about his interests in basketball. Brady then recalled telling Jack, “Dude, you’re gonna be a stud” because he wants the teenager to know that “his dad’s got his back.”
Later, the former star athlete acknowledged that his children will face their own set of challenges growing up just like everyone else. However, the father of three noted that they will have to figure out “how to overcome them too,” adding that he “will be there to support them a lot like my parents did.”
Brady shares his eldest son, Jack, with his ex, Bridget Moynahan. He also shares a second son, Benjamin Rein, and a daughter, Vivian Lake, with his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen.
