Cra-Z-Art Gemex/Gel2Gem jewelry kits contain hazardous chemicals
LaRose Industries recently proceeded with a recall for the Cra-Z-Art Gemex/Gel2Gem jewelry DIY kits of almost 224,100 units after finding out that the liquid form of the resin in the products contains a dangerous quantity of acrylate.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the acrylate is the hydroxyethylmethacrylate compound or “HEMA.” The amount of the harmful chemicals discovered in the products came under the prohibited amount of the compound in children’s products by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.
To make sure that it is fully cured, an inspection of the already made jewelry should be conducted. If the products contain liquid or any traces of liquid residue, no one should wear the jewelry. They should not be in children’s reach. However, when the resin if completely cured, it no longer poses any danger or harm.
This issued recall includes a total of ten models of Cra-Z-Art Gemex/Gel2Gem jewelry-making kits. The jewelry kits come with a refill pack and have a resin bottle as well. They further include a UV setting light to cure the resin. These products come in rectangular boxes. They have the label with the “Cra-Z-Art” brand name. They also display either “crazy gel2gem” or “Gemex.” The bottom of the boxes for the products showcase different UPC codes and item numbers.
As reported by LaRose Industries, no reports of injuries have emerged as of now. As for remedy, consumers should immediately stop using the jewelry kits and for a refund, they should further contact LaRose Industries.
