I got my first pair of glasses when I was 12 years old.
That’s not so young, in the grand scheme of things, but I certainly felt young. My glasses-wearing status brought the grand total of glasses-wearing students in my class to two.
That’s two students out of 22. Sigh. And ouch.
Back then, I didn’t see many people wearing glasses. My mum wore glasses, and had done so for a very long time. But I didn’t see them on many people my age. I didn’t read about many children with glasses, or see movies or TV shows featuring children and teens with glasses.
Would it have helped to see this? Maybe. It certainly wouldn’t have hurt.
So here’s a list for you and your young ones. A list of characters who wear glasses. A list of characters who appear in children’s television shows, books and movies that wear glasses.
Will it help? Maybe. I hope so. And it certainly won’t hurt.
Enjoy.
