There’s a new word game in town!

That’s right, move over Scrabble, there’s a new word game in town!

As a mum I am always looking for new ways to make learning fun for my kids. It’s a constant struggle…enter Bananagrams my saviour. It’s the award-winning word game that is educational, challenging, exciting and fun to play. It’s also highly addictive! In fact I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

The premise is simple, there are 144 word tiles and each player gets around 11 – 21 each depending on the amount of players. Then players race against each-other to create crossword grids and to try and use up all of their tiles.

During the game you get to shout out key words making it even more fun! Tiles are placed face down. You shout “SPLIT” to start the game and turn over your tiles, “DUMP” when you are exchanging letters and “PEEL” when you’ve run out of face up word tiles.

When the BUNCH is depleted to fewer tiles than number of players, the first person to use ALL their letters in a connected word grid and call out “BANANAS!” wins that hand and is declared TOP BANANA!

Other players may now inspect the winning grid. If it contains a misspelled or incorrect word you shout “ROTTEN BANANA!” and that player is out of the game. The ROTTEN BANANA’s letters are returned to the BUNCH facedown.

Play resumes for the other players until one of them calls out “BANANAS!” once again. Then, as before, the first player to use all of their tiles is crowned “Top Banana”.

IT IS SO MUCH FUN!!

Anything that gets my son off his iPad and using his brain gets a big thumbs up from me. To be fair it also got me thinking too, we had so much fun playing it together.

I love the fact that there is no turn taking and you can play at your own pace. I also loved seeing how excited my son became when he found a new word. It’s great for his confidence around words, he was beaming with pride as his grid got bigger.

It’s fantastic to watch your kids get so excited about an educational game that improves their word skills whilst they play.

Bananagrams is the perfect game take on family holidays because it requires no pencil, paper, or board. It’s lightweight and compact and comes in a small portable banana-shaped pouch that can be packed in your luggage and played on the go.

It’s definitely coming to London on with us on our family holiday! I think my parents will love playing it with their grandkids. It’s fun for all the family aged 7 and up!

My 4 year old daughter was pretty pleased that there is a Bananagrams game for her too. Perfect for the pre-reader and early learner, My First BANANAGRAMS utilizes lowercase letters that help children grow a love for word games and wordplay, and aligns perfectly with reading curriculums.

Also included are combo-letter word building tiles, which are the first step in word creation. With multiple mini games, My First BANANAGRAMS creates a step-by-step play-progression towards ultimately learning how to play a full game of BANANAGRAMS.

Perfect for ages 4 and up, her big bro was happy to play with her and help her create words while mum put her feet up. Win, win.

Bananagrams and My First Bananagrams are available at all major retailers and toy stores. At $25 it’s an absolute bargain for family fun guaranteed.
