Mom Accused of Using ‘Fake’ Baby As Decoy to Steal Yogurt at Aldi

Patricia Larkin just wanted to buy some yogurt at Aldi on Monday, little did she know that her quick trip to the store would turn into a hilarious case of mistaken identity. Larkin, who was busy choosing yogurt in the dairy section at Aldi, was surreptitiously being watched by a stranger who went to the cashier and accused Larkin of using a “fake baby” to steal yogurt.

After Larkin was presumably cleared of all accusations and free to go home, she posted a hilarious open letter to her town’s public Facebook group, the Lacey Township Chatter.

“Well, I don’t usually do ‘To the person who…’ posts but this one has me cracking up, so here we go,” wrote Larkin. “To the lady who told the cashier at Aldi that she thought I had a fake baby and was trying to smuggle yogurts out of the store- 1) My baby is 100% real. 2) Yogurts are like $.25 at Aldi. 3) I’m lactose intolerant and don’t consume any dairy at all. Thank you for the laugh, though. I really needed it because I was up all night tending to my (again, 100% real) baby.”

Now, you might wondering how on earth a mom using a baby sling could even fit a bunch of yogurts in it. I know I was wondering that. Apparently, the comment section had a lot of questions about the motives of the stranger who reported Larkin to the Aldi staff. But then, PLOT TWIST! She chimed in.

A woman called Aileen Krupa commented that it was her. She responded to the open letter penned by Larkin, “Nope. It was me and I am not ashamed to say so,” Krupa wrote. “The baby was sleeping the entire time and was like a dead weight in her arms as well as being wrapped so I could only see the babies ear. I would have asked you except if you were really shoplifting I could have put myself or someone else in danger. I.decided to err on the side of caution and say something. I did tell the cashier that I really hoped it was a baby. As anyone in retail can tell you, shoplifting involving babies or baby items is quite common. I am quite glad your baby finally yawned on the check out line so I knew all was ok. May god bless you with your baby being that quite during your sleeping hours as well.”

Larkin immediately responded to Krupa, posting “She was crying in the carrier and moving around as we walked throughout the store.”

Unfortunately, comment sections being what they are, Krupa got dragged pretty hard.

Moral of the story? Maybe folks should, in general, mind their own business and not jump to wild conclusions about what a mom is up to in public.
