This is almost too funny to be true. Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer are changing their soon-to-be 1-year-old son’s name for a reason few of us can argue with: Because it sounds like “genital.” Can you imagine the ridicule on the playground?
She shared her personal experience with it on the latest episode of her Spotify podcast, Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith. “Do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name, is officially changed?” The comedian added, “It’s now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realized that we, by accident, named our son ‘genital.’” Longtime friend Claudia O’Doherty (from the Netflix show, Love) who was a guest on the episode, replied, “My mom pointed that out to me, Amy’s called her son ‘Genital’ and she was right!”
When he was born last year, Amy announced her baby’s name on Instagram: Gene Attell Fischer.
“It sounds like genital fissure,” one of her followers commented on her name announcement post.
“Uh, am I the only one who thinks Gene-attell is going to be turned into Genital??” another said.
Look, for the most part, parents tend to put a ton of thought and deliberation into their baby-to-be’s name. And Schumer and Fischer were no different. Gene’s former middle name was a tribute to the couple’s friend, comedian Dave Attell. But by changing Gene’s middle name to “David,” Schumer is still honoring Dave Attell – just in a better way, wouldn’t you say? Dave is also her father Gordon Schumer’s middle name. “So, two stones,” she explains.
Amy had a difficult pregnancy and birth with Gene, but she’s attempting to conceive her and Chris’ second child through IVF. In fact, back in January, Schumer posted an incredibly candid post on Instagram in which she asked her 9.5 million fans to give her some advice on how to get through the IVF journey.
Here’s hoping the couple has some happy news to share soon.
