5 Ways To Be More Involved in Your Kid’s Life

One of the most valuable things parents can offer their children is quality time. However, in today’s hectic lifestyle, you might spend hours working on the computer, commuting, or doing chores, among other things, which may make your little ones feel neglected and less loved. That is why being more involved in your kids’ lives is essential to ensure they feel valued, respected, and heard. Of course, with juggling so many things at once, you might have limited time left for your little ones but try to get more involved in their life with these easy methods.

1. Do projects together

Kids bring in school projects all the time, so why not help them? Don’t do all their work as the projects help them learn, but do assist them with the same. This way, you can bond with them easily. The school projects will give you an insight into your child’s creative side, and you can lend them a helping hand if they are stuck.

You should also help them with their homework daily to keep track of their academic performance. And never miss out on their school functions and programs, especially if your little one participates in them.

2. Cook together

Get your little helper in the kitchen and cook with them. Give them age-appropriate tasks and talk to them throughout the process. Preparing meals together is a great way to bond with your kids.

If your kids are not keen on cooking together, ask for their help setting the table, putting the dishes on the rack, etc. Involve your kid in the kitchen work as much as you can while you cook so that you can spend more time together.

3. Take them on a date

Spending quality time together and getting more involved with your kid’s life is always lovely. Take your kids to their favorite restaurant every week, followed by the places they love to visit, like beaches, parks, craft workshops, etc.

If you are on a tight schedule, you can plan a date with their favorite meals and movies at home. You can even read books and play games together to make them feel loved and cared for.

4. Meet their friends

Meeting and knowing their friends is essential, especially if your kids are teenagers. This is an excellent way to check whether your kiddos are in good company. So, meet their friends in a restaurant over lunch or call them home to grab some snacks.

Sit and chat with them without throwing judgemental glances at them. Just try to bond with them and stay open-minded, as how you raised your kids would be very different from how their parents raised them.

5. Always listen to your child

No matter how important your video call is, drop everything if your child walks in to talk to you, especially if it seems serious. It takes a lot of courage for kids to step up to their parents and open up. So, set everything aside, sit down with them, and listen to their issue without being judgemental.

Have open communication and help your kids find the solution to the problem. Make it a point to talk to your child about their day at school, their friends, etc., every single day to be more involved in your kid’s life.

Kids grow up in the blink of an eye. Once we become a parent, that is the first thing we are made aware of. So, try your best to get involved in your kid’s life and shower them with parental love before they are too old.
