Easy DIY: Glow-In-The-Dark Jellyfish Craft for Kids

Children love anything that glows in the dark. They find them fascinating. That is why here’s a craft for kids that they will love to decorate their room or play with. This glow-in-the-dark jellyfish is an easy DIY you can make with your little ones, with materials readily available at home.

Materials

  • Heavy-weight paper bowls
  • White yarn
  • Glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes and painting supplies
  • Scissors
  • Zipper sandwich bags
  • Skewer or sharp pencil

Procedure

  1. To make glow-in-the-dark jellyfish, paint the bowl on the inside and outside. For a brighter glow, use two or more coats of paint.
  2. Cut 10 to 12 pieces of yarn (approximately 36 inches in length) for the tentacles of glow-in-the-dark jellyfish.
  3. Then, place them in a zipper sandwich bag with several squirts of glow paint and seal the bag. Make sure the yarn is completely covered. Add more paint if necessary. Add a little water to the bag if the paint is too thick.
  4. Once the yarn is completely covered, hang it to dry.
  5. While the yarn dries, take your painted bowl and punch two holes at the center, about half an inch apart, using a skewer or sharp pencil.
  6. Your yarn should be about 40 inches long. Then, thread the 40-inch piece through the holes so the ends come out from the bottom.
  7. Pull the yarn up from the inside of the bowl to create a small loop. Then, thread the tentacles through, roughly centering them under the loop.
  8. Flip your bowl, pull the yarn taut, and tie a beautiful double knot.
  9. On the inside, grasp the tentacles as one bunch, and tie a single knot.
  10. Now comes the finishing touches, which are the oral arms (the frilly appendages some jellyfish have). You can recreate this by unraveling some pieces of yarn close to the center.

With this last step, your glow-in-the-dark jellyfish is ready. You can turn out the lights to enjoy its mesmerizing luminous glow. Your kids will love this DIY craft. So, get the materials ready and make this glow-in-the-dark jellyfish for your kids’ playtime.
