Are you bored of looking at the same lamp in your living room or your kid’s room? Planning to buy a new one to spruce up the space? Before you go lamp-hopping or spend hours searching for that perfect one online, here is a budget-friendly idea. A custom lampshade cover!

Why not give your lamp a new life with a quick and easy DIY? This way, you can re-use the one you already have, save some bucks, and get your kids involved in the project to spend some family time together. Plus, by covering the lampshade with a personalized cover, you can keep it seasonal and match your holiday decor.

Here is an easy DIY lampshade cover tutorial, which only requires a few simple household items that we are sure you must already have. Without further ado, let’s start working on this no-sew DIY lampshade cover.

Materials

  • Old lampshade (or a new, plain one)
  • Large sheet of paper (kraft paper or old wrapping paper works)
  • Pearl head pins
  • Fabric glue
  • Clothespins
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or pen

Procedure

  1. Start with making the pattern for your lampshade cover. For this, lay a large piece of kraft or wrapping paper on the floor (or any flat surface) and place the lampshade seam-side down onto the paper.
  2. Starting at the seam, slowly roll the lampshade over the paper, tracing both the top and bottom of the shade with a pen or pencil onto the paper. Continue to roll and trace the shade until you reach the seam again.
  3. After tracing, remove the shade from the paper and cut out the pattern you have just traced.
  4. Pin the pattern to your fabric, making sure you iron out any wrinkles.
  5. Adding about an inch to the edges of the pattern, cut the pattern out carefully from the fabric.
  6. Lay your fabric wrong side up on a table.
  7. Using fabric glue, draw a line down the seam of your lampshade.
  8. Place the lampshade down onto the fabric and smooth the fabric over the seam.
  9. Draw a line of glue around the outside top and bottom of the lampshade and slowly roll your shade over the fabric, making sure to smooth down the fabric as you go to ensure that it sticks to the glue on the lampshade without wrinkling.
  10. Once you have covered the lampshade with the fabric, glue the seam down and smooth shut.
  11. Draw a bead of glue around the inside top of the lampshade and turn the extra fabric down into the inside of the top of the shade to adhere to the glue.
  12. Use wooden clothespins to hold the fabric down while it dries.
  13. Repeat this for the bottom of the lampshade.
  14. Let the glue dry with the clothespins intact, and remove them before placing the lampshade back on your lamp.

To elevate the look, you can even paint or spray paint the lamp stand to match the lampshade. You can also add beads or crystals to make the lampshade even fancier. Do try out this easy-to-make DIY project and let us know in the comment section below how it turned out.
