DIY Holiday: A Glam New Year’s Brooch

Nowadays, New Year’s Eve parties can be formal or casual. But whatever the attire, this festive brooch is certain to add that extra little sparkle to any outfit.  Use it to dress up a coat lapel, or pin it to a soft knit sweater to show your cheerful side.

Materials (makes 2)

1/8 yard special occasion dot fabric
1/8 yard satin fabric
Scrap felt
1 pin back
Glue gun or fabric-tac (not shown)

Cut your felt into a 2.5 inch circle.

Take your satin fabric and cut it into a 30” x 2.5” strip, tapering one end. Cut your dot fabric and cut a 30”x2” strip (do not taper end).

Sew a straight line on the straight edge of the satin piece and pull the bobbin threads to gather.

Repeat the process with the dot fabric.

Place the dot gathered strip on top of the satin strip…

…and sew them together.

Take your felt circle and beginning at the outer edge, begin to sew the strips to the felt in a spiral until you get to the center.

Place a small amount of glue to the back of the felt and attach the pin back.

You’re done!  Now you’ll be the glam of the party!
