DIY: Heart Pocket Apron

We all love treats and crafts around Valentines Day. Here’s one project that combines both!

This tutorial is for a festive new Valentines apron (with heart-shaped pockets!) to wear while you’re baking those special Valentines Day cookies. It would also be a great gift a friend, sister, or mother.

Supplies:

  • 27 x 14 piece of white canvas fabric
  • Matching fabric to make four hearts approximately 8” wide
  • (optional) One piece of trim 27” long for the bottom of the apron
  • One piece of trim at least 50” long for the waist tie
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • matching thread

Take the canvas, fold and iron ½” on each side twice over.

Sew along those folded sides to make neat seams.

Draw or print a large heart (mine was a about 8” by 6”) and pin on top of four layers of matching fabric for the pockets. Cut out the four hearts.

Take two hearts and sew them together, right sides together, leaving  small opening to turn inside out.

When you turn it inside out it should look something like this.

Iron it flat and carefully fold the hold inside the heart,  then sew it closed.

Do the same with the other two hearts. When both are finished, pin them onto the apron where you’d like them to go.

Top stitch them in place leave the top open to fit your hand

Take your trim and place it underneath the front of the apron where you’d like it to go

Turn the apron around the pin it in place, and then sew it on

Take your trim for the waist, fold it in half and pin it to the middle of the top. Leaving the ends hanging off to tie, sew along trim  on top of the apron.

Now you’ve got a nice new apron to bake Valentines Day cookies, or to give away to a friend!
