DIY Holiday: Paper Mache Easter Basket

This paper mache Easter basket is a really fun way to create your own unique shaped basket to decorate your home for the  Easter holiday.

You can create any shape bowl you wish, simply choose a kitchen bowl that has the desired shape. It’s a messy project but kids will love to get their hands dirty too in the process.

Supplies:

  • Bowl
  • Newspaper
  • Spring colored tissue paper
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Flour and water
  • Scissors

Mix one part water with one part flour in a separate bowl.

Wrap your bowl in plastic wrap

Cut up strips of newspaper

Dip the newspaper strips into the glue mixture and then onto the wrapped bowl. Be prepared for messy! I placed an tablecloth underneath. You’ll want to cover the bowl 3 times, with the last coat in printer paper to give is a stiffer finish.

For your finished layer you’ll want ot cut strips of pastel tissue paper

Cover the whole bowl with the tissue paper. Because it’s more delicate than newspaper, don’t dip the paper in the glue the way you did before. Just brush a little glue on and then stick the paper on top otherwise the paper will fall apart.

Let the bowl dry completey, for at least 24 hrs, before trying to remove the inner kitchen bowl. It will be easier to first pull the plastic wrap, cutting the inside plastic wrap off, from the kitchen bowl before trying to take the paper mache bowl off. You might need a butter knife to help with this process.
