Imaginative Play-On The Fly

The blogosphere is saturated with so many beautiful projects that it’s important to remind ourselves every once in a while – kids really don’t need fancy to have fun.

Case in point, today was one of those days we just couldn’t seem to get out of the house.  Despite being in desperate need of basic staples like milk and toilet paper, my little ones decided to tag team their naps all day long.  Once I let go of my grocery shopping dreams, I decided to embrace a day of play.  Inspired by a clever post on how to turn Dad’s old t-shirt into a cape, I got out my scissors and went to town.

I skipped any steps involving sewing, hot gluing, or decorating.

I simply cut off the front of a men’s t-shirt and left the neck hole intact to slip over my little guy’s head.  All of the other stuff would have led to a more stylish (and better fitting) cape but today just wasn’t that kind of day.  It was about seizing the moment with a 30 second project that resulted in 30 minutes of spontaneous fun.

Have some more great tips for improvised play?  I’d love it if you’d share with us in the comments section.
