Fondant always looks gorgeous on a cake but it’s not exactly a convenient thing to find. Plus, store bought fondant is pretty expensive and doesn’t taste good. This inexpensive and foolproof marshmallow fondant recipe is a perfect substitute. Here’s how to make it.
Supplies:
- Bag of mini marshmallows
- Bag of powdered sugar
- Large microwaveable bowl
- Oil
- Rolling Pin
Instructions:
Step 1: Pour the bag of marshmallows into the microwaveable bowl
Step 2: Pour two tablespoons of water into the bowl and microwave it for 45 seconds.
Step 3: Stir, and microwave again for another 30 seconds. Repeat this process of 30 seconds of microwaving and stirring until the result is creamy and smooth.
Step 4: Start pouring powered sugar into the bowl, a few cups at a time. The amount you’re adding will seem ridiculous, but your goal is to turn this sticky mess into a powdery dough. So just keep adding sugar while stirring.
Eventually your marshmallow dough will become this soft, beautiful fondant.
Step 5: Add a bit of oil on a table, then add more sugar to your rolling pin and start to roll it out.
Step 6: At this point you can turn the fondant into whatever you want, from cake toppers, to shapes. You can even cover an entire cake with it.
I found these alphabet cookie cutters and made some cut out letters for some birthday cupcakes for my son.
Have fun with it! If you want to harden your fondant a bit, simply put it in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
