I love making homemade peppermint patties. I’m not a huge cookie fan, so when I go to cookie swaps, I try to bring something that is similar enough to a cookie but that leans more towards candy. (It’s cheating, I know.) These homemade peppermint patties are definitely a go-to of mine whenever I’m asked to bring treats. People are always impressed by the fact that you can make peppermint patties at home. The secret is that they’re really easy to make, and even better, the majority of the ingredients are pantry staples. So if I have to make a homemade treat in a pinch, I swing by the store for some half and half (if I don’t already have it already) and I’m on my way to making a super-unique dessert.
Adding a dusting of leprechaun’s gold to the patties is the perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! Once I dusted mine with gold, I started to think about all the other treats I could dust with edible gold. Cupcake frosting? Sugar cookies? Donuts? Yum!
